 HOW   TO  MAKE  A  MAGAZINE?

HOW TO MAKE A MAGAZINE FORD Motor Company set out to build a magazine that would be a combination of automotive and magazine contents. Ford Motor Company Motor Trend magazine which was first published in September 1981, was a “weighty little production looker”. From then on it became the focus of young “journalist schlubs” and then the younger generation after it was syndicated by CNN in September 1994. The seven monthly “Magazine Person” featured in the history book is: John Lennon, N.W.A, Leonid Brezhnev, Robert F Kennedy, Hunter S Thompson, Jimi Hendrix, Beethoven, Miles Davis and Bob Dylan. NEW YORK CITY ELECTRIC RANGE CLOCK The world’s first electric range clock was designed and built in early 1887 by Thomas Edison. This clock was housed in a shop-front in New York City and is still displayed at the Electric Light and Power Museum in New York City. The range clock was accompanied by a light bulb and an oil lantern. For a week a watchman from the Edison company would start and stop the clock with his clock hands, over and over again, until the water boiled and the oil ran out. The basic idea is to give the watchman to opportunity to measure the time for that period. In addition, the clock could be used to measure the arrival time of a train. The range clock was the first time keeping device invented that contained numbers, with the first numbers indicating the time of day, followed by thirty minute time mark and hour mark. In 1887 the range clock’s accuracy was ±2 minutes and thirty seconds per day. ECO-FASHION The first ethical fashion clothing is believed to have been the dress of Marie Sklodowska-Curie who made the first international patent for her own clothing design in 1926. Marie’s principles were “fewer, better, more responsible”. Although conventional fashion is often accused of ignoring environmental issues, green issues have now achieved recognition in the world of high fashion and many designer designers are changing their clothes. In 1966 the term “eco-fashion” was coined and the global sustainable clothing industry was born, with a mission to rid the world of poverty by creating better quality and more affordable garments that also used less resources than regular clothes. Clothing is one of the most polluting sectors of the clothing industry, contributing around 18.8 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) every year, leading to severe climate change. Arctic Fox The Arctic fox is found in the wilds of Canada, Alaska and Siberia. It lives in cold, tundra-like areas, which is why it is called the arctic fox. It lives in colonies or “lanes” of about 60 to 80 foxes. The whole clan has a strict order of hierarchy with each fox being subordinate to the dominant male. The Arctic fox is a vicious, highly active predator, known to live in both snowy and flat areas. It is a scavenger of any waste products, including road kill. There are a number of significant threats that could affect the Arctic fox, such as habitat loss and lead poisoning caused by car exhaust pipes. This species was recently added to the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species. ST. VINCENT FLAG In the same year as the death of saint Francis Xavier, 1549, a Franciscan brother of the Third Order called Peter Boddaert was assigned to be the herald of the newly founded New World order. He designed a flag and in 1556 gave a copy to the President of the Regent, Jean Duplessis, who had died of the plague in 1550. The flag was white with the sun in the middle, seven stars on it, and the monastery crest below the sun. The motto “Fiat Lux” was written in Arabic on the middle star.
